TBCE reports increased licensing volume and enforcement caseload metrics

At its Feb. 6 meeting, the Texas Board of Chiropractic Examiners heard operational reports showing a recent rise in licensing activity and steady enforcement caseloads.
Director of Licensing Sarah Matthews said 24 new licenses were issued in December and 49 in January, attributing the January increase to a large graduating class at Parker University.
Director of Enforcement Chris Walling presented performance metrics covering Aug. 13–Dec. 29: 87 complaints received; 37 administratively closed for no jurisdiction or insufficient evidence; 18 cases pending with law enforcement; 4 cease-and-desist orders issued; 1 emergency suspension; and 5 administrative (non-reportable) citations. Walling said the agency had about 112 open cases (roughly evenly split between investigative and legal stages) and that average days-to-close had decreased from a prior target of 225 days to about 148 days after operational changes and additional legal support.
Board members asked clarifying questions about status categories and pending informal conferences; enforcement staff said several cases were in negotiation with opposing counsel and some were pending settlement or formal hearing set-up.
