Weber County recognizes Hogan Construction and VCBO Architects for $20 million conference center remodel

Weber County officials used a February 2026 recap meeting to recognize Hogan Construction and VCBO Architects for awards tied to the recent conference center remodel. "We have received 2 different awards, been re recognized for both design and ... construction award for the remodel of the conference center," said Cassie Bybee, who appeared on the meeting agenda.

The host of the meeting said the project cost $20,000,000 and was completed "on time, under budget," and that the county paid for the work with cash rather than issuing bonds. "It was a $20,000,000 project, and they did it on time, under budget," the host said.

County leaders framed the remodel as part of a larger tourism strategy. The host said that, because of tourism generated by county facilities, "every man, woman, and child in Weber County, nearly 270,000 of us, would have to spend another $2,020 each in an annual year to make up the difference in the tourism that happens because of things like this." That per-person figure was presented by the host as an estimate; the county did not provide a formal source for the calculation during the recap.

The host listed other tourism-funded operations that county officials said are supported by these revenues: the Egyptian Theatre, the Ice Sheet, the Golden Spike Events Center, the Shooting Complex and Fort Buena Ventura. The host emphasized that these operations are funded by tourism receipts rather than property taxes.

No formal motions, votes, or ordinance changes were recorded in the recap related to the remodel awards. County staff thanked the contractor and architect for their work and noted the recognition was for both design and construction contributions. The meeting closed after additional agenda items were previewed.
