Parks and Recreation director JP told the Board of Mayor and Aldermen on Feb. 23 that the Players League (Volunteer State League) has chosen Tullahoma for an inaugural team this summer. Brian Morris, Tullahoma High School baseball coach, unveiled the team name — the Tullahoma Test Pilots — and said several collegiate players had already committed to play in June.
JP said the team will contribute to sports tourism in the city and that the league’s model in similar small cities has driven community engagement and merchandise revenue. Morris described the team as an opportunity for local college players to perform in front of family and friends during the offseason and said he expected a competitive roster drawing players from the broader Middle Tennessee and Huntsville and Chattanooga areas.
City administrators said they expect additional announcements in the coming weeks, including logos and other promotional materials. The mayor and several aldermen praised the announcement and urged residents to attend games.
What’s next: Parks staff will circulate schedule and promotional information before the season begins in June.
