When asked whether FERC is concerned about a potential LNG supply glut amid project extensions and new applications, Chairman Sweat said, "Speaking personally, I am not concerned about a lack of supply."
He emphasized the agency's role is to ensure procedures are followed and each application is examined on its merits and the applicable law. "Every application that comes into FERC, we have procedure that we will strictly adhere to, and that involves looking at every application on its specific merits and the applicable law," he said.
The chairman framed his view as oriented toward building infrastructure to secure energy supplies and support allies, while promising that the commission's review process would remain consistent.
Next steps: FERC will continue to process LNG export and related applications through its normal procedures; no policy changes were announced at the briefing.
