Commissioners name five to new Hunterdon County Improvement Authority

The Hunterdon County Board of Commissioners on Dec. 2 confirmed five inaugural members of the newly created Hunterdon County Improvement Authority, which the board said will offer municipalities a voluntary pooled‑borrowing tool to lower borrowing costs.
The appointees are Kevin Davis (former county administrator), Gary Hazard (former mayor, Brereton Township and local IT business leader), Robert T. McNally (attorney), Howard Jack Updike (owner, Updike Lumber) and Beth Gates (former state official and nonprofit leader). Commissioners said the authority will provide a shared financing option for municipal capital projects and cited an independent analysis estimating nearly $700,000 in interest savings for municipal taxpayers over the past two years had the program existed.
The appointments passed by roll call and establish staggered terms so the body may begin implementation work in 2026.
