Prescott Valley Board of Adjustment approves amended minutes, elects Dana Shaffer as vice chair

The Prescott Valley Board of Adjustment approved amended minutes from its Nov. 24, 2025, meeting and elected Dana Shaffer as vice chair for the coming year during its February 2026 meeting.

Chair Dana Shaffer opened the session and described the board as a "quasi-judicial impartial body" made up of town residents who volunteer their time. During a review of the Nov. 24, 2025 minutes, Shaffer identified a wording error in section 6(a) and told the board "the word 'not' needs to be removed" to correct the sentence that referenced the location and hardship related to a pool.

A member moved to approve the minutes as amended; the motion was seconded and adopted by roll-call vote. Vice Chairperson Carson, Chair Dana Shaffer, and Member Burton each voted "yes," and the board approved the corrected minutes.

With no public hearing items on the agenda, the board turned to the night's action item: election of a vice chair. Shaffer read the town code governing selection, citing Town Code section 13.13.020(d), which states the board elects its chair and vice chair from membership for one-year terms and that a vice chair succeeds to chair if the chair's office becomes vacant.

A board member nominated Dana Shaffer for the vice chair position; Shaffer replied, "That's fine with me." A motion to elect Shaffer as vice chair was made and seconded. The board conducted a roll-call vote; Vice Chairperson Carson, Member Burton, and Dana Shaffer voted "yes," and the motion passed, electing Shaffer as vice chair for the upcoming year.

After the vote the board moved to adjourn; the motion was seconded and the meeting was declared adjourned. Staff listed as present at the meeting included planners Chris Norlock and Brittany Cleveland, Administrative Services Manager Carmela David, and Deputy Town Attorney Stevens Rhett.
