HOA president praises rapid emergency response after Creekside sprinkler failure

Sal Zangari told the council that a frozen fire-sprinkler system failed Jan. 31 at Creekside Senior Condominiums and that about 17 residents were displaced while staff and emergency personnel coordinated evacuation and sheltering.
Zangari said he arrived at the building within minutes, the fire department and police helped shut down the sprinkler system and organized an evacuation, and LANTA provided a bus to transport residents to the borough community center when the building had no available shelter. Borough staff turned on heat and provided water and coffee for evacuees; EMS provided lift chairs and helped residents down stairs when elevators were out of service.
Zangari said the sprinkler system was repaired later that evening and residents were allowed to return. Council members and the mayor publicly thanked fire, police, EMS and public-works crews and asked staff to consider a formal recognition or recommendation to acknowledge the response.
The council did not debate changes to building code or inspections during the thank-you exchange; Zangari said the community intends to hold a follow-up meeting to improve evacuation planning.
