Senate committee approves two commemorative license plates

The Georgia Senate Public Safety Committee on the specified day unanimously approved a substitute for Senate Bill 524 to create two specialty license plates, one marking 250 years of U.S. history and another honoring the Girl Scouts. The committee chair said members should have the substitute (LC394992S) in their folders and reviewed sample artwork before testimony.
The bill’s presenter described the 250th plate as a ‘‘250 years of freedom and liberty’’ banner and circulated design samples to the committee. Sen. Halpern, who identified herself as a former Girl Scout, described the organization’s leadership and entrepreneurship training for girls and noted its long history of community engagement.
After the short presentations, Sen. Payne moved that the committee report the substitute favorably; Sen. Wick seconded. A voice vote was taken and the chair announced the motion carried unanimously. The substitute now proceeds to the Rules Committee.
The committee treated the measure as noncontroversial and limited testimony to a single round for speakers who previously testified. No substantive amendments to the plate language were recorded during the committee’s review. The Rules Committee will receive the committee substitute next as part of regular legislative process.
