Members raised safety concerns about the teacups because several pieces are crazed (hairline cracks) and should not be used for food service; one member noted uranium glass (also called Vaseline glass) emits low-level radiation but is generally considered safe if not used for food and if undamaged.
The committee asked that any items sent out for crafts be clearly boxed and labeled "craft use only," and requested Tricia report back with the exact items and craft plans before any uranium-glass items leave town custody. Staff and members also discussed whether any pieces have insurance or significant artifact value that would affect lending decisions.
