Nelson County introduced consultant Mike Ford from KASA to lead a demographic and enrollment study; staff plan to partner with local planning/GIS resources and return to the board with a detailed report in April.
The Nelson County Board of Education on Feb. 17 heard from Mike Ford of the Kentucky Association of School Administrators about a demographic and enrollment study intended to help the district plan for growth.
Ford described his four-decade career in public education and said he will help the district examine longitudinal population and enrollment data, GIS and planning commission information, and other variables that affect staffing, facilities, transportation and program equity. He emphasized annual review of demographic data rather than multiyear gaps and suggested partnering with local planning and GIS offices to monitor new residential developments.
Mister Martin said the district will partner with Ford and local entities and present a more thorough data reality at the April board meeting. Ford encouraged the district to use these data to plan programs and staffing proactively rather than reactively.
