The engineering committee reviewed a petition asking the commission to determine that a 0.07‑acre portion of Montgomery Street has ceased to be used by the public and to advertise for a public hearing under the Official Code of Georgia procedure for abandonment and conveyance.
Attorney Plunkett and county staff introduced the request and asked committee members to view aerials and photos presented by petitioner Matt Mills, who told the committee the segment has been grassed over for decades and that the petitioner (401 Millage LLC) owns property on both sides of the unused strip. Mills said staff recommended approval to advertise a public hearing and indicated there was, to his knowledge, no public opposition at present. Commissioners asked for clear graphics to show extents and staff confirmed standard next steps: public hearing, survey, appraisal and a final vote on the abandonment and conveyance at a later date.
The committee approved advertising a public hearing, with staff and counsel to notify the community and coordinate the hearing schedule; the matter will return to the commission after the public‑hearing record is closed.
