Commissioners authorized a $1,413,100 local share for reconstruction of the Martin Luther King Jr. Street bridge over US‑131 and adjacent rail lines and related approaches.
Project staff said the Michigan Department of Transportation will bid and administer the work, with bids expected at the next MDOT letting. The reconstruction runs from the east side of the on/off ramps to just west of Ionia Avenue and will include 10‑foot sidewalks on both sides; the sidewalk portion will be funded from the city’s major streets fund. Staff noted prior easement approvals, railroad agreements and a noise‑variance approval in August to allow night concrete pours where needed for construction timing.
Work on the project is anticipated to begin in spring following the MDOT bid process. The committee approved the local‑share authorization by voice vote.
