The Brentwood City Council on Feb. 24 authorized an agreement with Redwood Public Law to appoint Thomas Lloyd Smith as interim city attorney while the city conducts an executive recruitment for the permanent position.
Sakari Bashir, director of human resources, said the current city attorney’s last day is March 7 and that an interim appointment will ensure continuity of legal services. Thomas Lloyd Smith, representing the firm, said he is willing to start earlier if needed and recommended at least one week of overlap with the outgoing city attorney. Council asked staff to add contract language clarifying authority during any overlap and to correct a clerical error so the appropriate signature line is the mayor’s.
Councilmembers moved, seconded and approved the resolution authorizing the mayor to execute the agreement with Redwood Public Law and directed staff to incorporate the clerical and overlap language. The motion passed unanimously.
