Votes at a glance: Canton trustees approve road contracts, emergency water‑main repairs, arts grant and parking improvements

Canton Township trustees approved several procurement and budget items at their Feb. 24 meeting.

Road program and engineering: Trustees authorized awarding the 2026 major road improvement construction contract to Fonson Company Inc. with a purchase order of $900,000 (transcript reports a bid price of $782,421.23 plus a contingency) and authorized a construction engineering purchase order to Fishbeck LLC not to exceed $135,580. Staff said the scope includes work to complete the Gettys & Beck intersection with asphalt resurfacing and three added right‑turn lanes to improve traffic flow.

Emergency water main repair: Public Works reported an emergency repair to a prestressed concrete water main on Michigan Avenue that required special parts above the usual inventory. The board approved waiving the competitive bid process and issuing a purchase order to Bridal LLC for $20,416.80 for parts; contractor labor was expected to remain under standard purchasing thresholds.

Arts grant: Trustees accepted a $6,000 Partnership for the Arts grant to the Village Theatre at Cherry Hill to expand summer theater programming, including bus transportation and a sensory‑friendly performance; a budget amendment was approved.

Village Arts Factory parking lot: Trustees awarded a contract to Fonson Company Inc. for parking lot improvements at the Village Arts Factory at a total project cost of $288,736.32 (bid $262,487.56 plus 10% contingency) and approved the required budget amendment to proceed with site work timed to the building’s opening this spring.

All items were approved by voice vote; staff said they will process purchase orders and required contract paperwork following board approval.
