The Canton Township Board approved resolution 2026‑12 on Feb. 24 to adopt the site plan for the Muslim Education Community Center of America (Mecca) at 6200 North Ridge Road, a proposed mosque and religious campus on an 11.47‑acre R‑1 parcel.
Staff reported that the planning commission previously recommended the special land use and site plan (actions from 06/24/2025 and 09/08/2025). Community planner Patrick Sloan told trustees the submitted traffic study (in the meeting packet) shows the project’s peak trip period aligns with Friday afternoon prayer (around noon–2 p.m.) and projects relatively small additional peak‑hour trips—about 18 trips southbound and about 20 trips northbound at the Ridge & Warren intersection during the peak two‑hour window.
Several residents raised concerns during public comment about Ridge Road’s condition and potential additional traffic. Resident Linda Brake said sections of Ridge Road are impassable and asked when the road would be graded; resident Dina Mishlak expressed worry about tree removal tied to a proposed sewer line and asked about the township’s long‑term Ridge Road vision.
The board approved the resolution by voice vote. Staff noted the applicant has previously received special land‑use approval and the planning process included submission of a traffic study that is available in the meeting packet.
