Board approves Medina Activity Center site plan amendment that expands stormwater pond onto township land

The Canton Township Board on Feb. 24 approved resolution 2026‑13 to amend the Medina Activity Center site plan, authorizing an eastward expansion of the site’s stormwater detention pond that will extend onto township land and establishing related easement and maintenance arrangements.
Community planner Patrick Sloan told trustees the township owns a narrow parcel east of the existing pond with frontage on Palmer Road but limited access; the applicant proposed a modified access easement so the development could extend the pond onto that township parcel. Sloan said the applicant committed to replacing any healthy trees removed on a 1:1 basis and to landscape the pond per zoning standards.
Applicant civil engineer Osama Oda said the design accounts for stormwater detention needs not only for the Medina site but also to provide some mitigation capacity for potential future trails on the township parcel. An MCWS representative said the applicant would accept maintenance responsibilities outlined in the easement agreement.
Trustees voted to approve the resolution after the planning commission’s recommendation for conditional approval (planning commission action 02/02/2026). No member requested further staff conditions at the board meeting.
The approval includes access and maintenance easement language the township and applicant will finalize as part of the site‑plan amendment and easement agreements.
