Town schedules March 30 open house as consultant flags hundreds of zoning issues

Planning staff told the commission that a consultant conducting a comprehensive zoning review has provided an initial set of findings and recommendations after a line-by-line review. Staff said the consultant identified roughly 903 discrete comments—instances of inconsistent language, incorrect cross-references and definitions missing from the regulations—and recommended a new, clearer format for the regulations.
"The consultant has done a line by line review of every page and has come up, has identified, like, 903 individual comments," Speaker 3 said, summarizing the consultant’s work. Staff said the rewrite is not intended to change the center zone substantively but will correct references, definitions and formatting and add process notes where appropriate.
As part of the rewrite, the town will hold a community engagement open house on Monday, March 30, at the library. The event will include a first-hour open house for drop-in questions, a presentation and breakout groups to solicit feedback on topics such as commercial-use standards, sign regulations, sustainability practices and performance standards. Staff invited commission members to attend and said materials will be posted on a dedicated webpage and in commission Dropbox folders when available.
