The Platteville Common Council voted May 27 to award Contract 7‑25 for thin asphalt overlays to Iverson Construction in the amount of $117,230.37 (base bid plus alternates). Public works staff (Howard) said this annual thin‑overlay program uses three‑quarter‑inch overlays to improve ride quality and extend pavement life by seven to 10 years. The project was estimated to be funded from wheel‑tax revenue; staff recommended including two additional streets because accumulated wheel‑tax revenues exceeded budget expectations.
Howard said the base bid was roughly $88,000 and including alternates brought the total to about $117,230.37, which is $7,230.37 over the estimated revenue but could be covered by accumulated excess funds from prior years. Council member Ken Killian said he would “reluctantly” vote for the contract; the motion carried.
Next steps: staff will execute the contract and schedule overlay work and provide maps and street lists to council when available.
