Library, pool and events updates: Souderton hears plans for concerts, beer fest and new permit portal

At the June 2 meeting Penny Price, the library representative, told councilors Souderton Library now offers Sunday afternoon hours (opens at 1 p.m.), has completed energy‑efficient lighting upgrades and accessible bathroom renovations, and will participate in Concert Sundays with an ice‑cream scoop event on June 15 and a Beer Fest in the park on July 19.

Resident Bing Hauser, representing the concert committee, thanked council members and volunteers for maintaining 38 years of Concert Sundays and noted the program’s contingency plan to move indoors if it rains. Resident Luke Longenecker praised the police department’s visibility and enforcement in his neighborhood.

Manager Sarah reported recreation membership sales around $220,000 year‑to‑date, described staffing and pool preparations, and announced progress on a new codes/permits software. She said the online billing and paperless billing have been completed, the codes module launched internally, and a public applicant portal for permits is planned to go live in mid‑July so residents can track plan reviews and inspections.

Also noted: a volunteer partnership with a group called "People Living" will bring volunteers to help with clerical or park tasks on a trial basis. Councilors and staff said they appreciate the community volunteers and noted the staffing adjustments being made for summer operations.
