Council reviews police monthly statistics, public works update and Towngate Commons land-development signings

The Soudersburg (Souderton) council received routine department reports Thursday night, including a monthly police report, public works updates and a planning update that the amended land-development plans for the Goddard School at Towngate Commons are ready for signature.

An unidentified police department staff member reported July totals of 995 incidents and 6,270 year-to-date. The staff breakdown included 231 traffic stops, 188 public-service calls, 51 assists to other agencies, 59 investigations, three Part 1 crimes, 37 Part 2 crimes, 11 parking-enforcement actions and 397 other service actions such as building and park checks. “For the month of July, we had 995 total incidents,” the staff member said.

Public works reported a staffing update — an employee on extended medical leave is expected to return in the near term — a pickup sweep repair in the shop and ongoing work cleaning plant beds around town. Officials said pipe work may be scheduled if needed this year.

On planning, a staff member filling in for John Trente said the amended land-development plans for the Goddard School at Towngate Commons are ready for signature by the borough engineer, council and planning commission. Council members noted the plans had been previously approved and said signatures were a ministerial step.

What happens next: the borough engineer, council and planning commission will sign the amended plans; department staff will follow up on public-works scheduling and operations as needed.
