Peoria County staff outlines progress on comprehensive land-use plan and next steps for public engagement

County planning staff gave an update on the Peoria County comprehensive land-use plan process and next steps for outreach.
Andrew told the board the Peoria County comprehensive plan kicked off at a bicentennial block party and that staff conducted broad public engagement through direct mailings, pop-up events and targeted focus groups. He said staff recently held workshops on employment centers, neighborhoods, agriculture (hosted by the Farm Bureau) and open space/conservation with environmental groups and other stakeholders.
Andrew said staff compiled initial input, prepared preliminary mapping and sketches, and plans to present first-phase results to the public in the coming weeks. He told the board the intention is to add a standing informational item to the land-use committee agenda so members can receive monthly updates and opportunities to engage before the plan is formally released for review. Andrew estimated additional public-facing updates could appear in March or April.
Board member Williams and Paul Rosenbaum, both active in the process, praised the public participation to date and said they expect a robust final product. No formal action was taken; the item was presented as an informational update.
What happens next: staff will continue public outreach, update the committee monthly, and prepare materials for broader public review in the next phase.
