Platteville council tables proposed no-parking ordinance for 7th Avenue

The Platteville Common Council voted on Sept. 9 to table indefinitely an ordinance that would prohibit parking on the east side of 7th Avenue.
Staff explained the proposal followed concerns that reconstruction had left the street narrow and that parking arrangements had caused a one-lane condition during some events. Councilmembers who inspected the street said the issue occurred only occasionally, and several members urged obtaining more input from residents and property owners before restricting parking. Staff said letters had been sent and that no additional responses were received after the last meeting.
Lynn Parrott moved to table the ordinance indefinitely; Kathy Kopp seconded. Council conducted a roll-call vote and the motion to table carried. Council members noted the ordinance can be brought back if multiple residents request action or if conditions change.
The council did not adopt a permanent parking restriction at the meeting; staff will await further input from the neighborhood before taking action.
