Department of Education technology and certification staff used the December call to walk attendees through recent Louisiana Educator Portal (LEC) changes and to encourage use of centralized support channels.
Lana Hutchinson, describing new features, said the portal now includes a "clear all" button for in-state experience verification forms so users who import incomplete data can start fresh. She added that fields for role, subject and grade level have been made required to prevent incomplete imports from blocking form completion. "So you can start over, with a clear fresh experience verification form," Hutchinson said.
Staff also described a preview mode for viewing applications in read-only form, and an application directory currently reachable via My Educator Profile that the team plans to make available without requiring Social Security validation. For now, the directory requires a validated Social Security number to access, but portal staff said they are exploring moving it to profile-level access or outside the login entirely.
Hutchinson emphasized preferred support channels: the Teacher Certification Help Center (preferred) routes questions by topic to specialists and retains a history; email to certification@la.gov creates a help-center ticket but is initially labeled 'other' and may slow routing. "We are answering questions on average in less than 1 full business day, but most, almost every question is answered within 2 to 3," Hutchinson said, encouraging users to include names and certificate numbers to speed case-specific research.
For complex cases, authenticated HR personnel and preparation providers may schedule office hours; staff asked that attendees submit a pre-question at least one full business day before the appointment. Hutchinson noted three distinct portals—office hours, general teacher certification and certification appeals—and warned users to select the correct portal when submitting requests.
Staff also explained account issues: multiple accounts created by users who forgot passwords require manual consolidation by the data systems support team and can take two to three days to resolve. Social Security validation is handled manually by a team member and typically takes one to two business days.
The session closed with reminders about where to find application history (Teach Louisiana link) and knowledge articles in the LEC that explain common processes such as renewals, adding endorsements and resolving feedback. Staff asked HR and prep providers to share guides and to use professional emails when filing tickets to aid identification and routing.
