CFBISD seeks renewal of HMH K–5 supplemental materials and Goalbook access for special education

District curriculum and special services staff presented two instructional renewals to trustees on Oct. 3: a renewal of HMH supplemental materials used in a K–1 pilot and the continuation of Goalbook access for special education teachers.
Miss Holcomb described the HMH package — phonics, phonemic awareness, spelling, grammar and leveled readers — and said the materials are "100% aligned" to Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for English Language Arts and Spanish Language Arts. She detailed the pilot timeline (initial purchase Nov. 2023; training in Jan. 2024; expansion in Aug. 2024) and said the renewal would primarily be funded from the district’s instructional materials allotment (IMA). Holcomb said preliminary instructional data can be pulled from STAR and MAP fluency tools and that a fuller year‑to‑year analysis would be available after a mid‑year data collection.
Kelly Burke, one of the special services directors, presented the Goalbook renewal and introduced top user Amy Barber, a content‑mastery teacher who testified to Goalbook’s usefulness for writing present levels, aligning goals for IEPs, and progress monitoring. Burke said the district covered Goalbook from allotted budgets and hopes to continue access for teachers and students.
Trustees asked about the professional development included with renewals; Holcomb said renewal includes an instructional coaching package (a mix of large group training and individualized campus support) and that campuses could schedule follow‑up sessions at times that matched teacher onboarding.
Next steps: These items were on the consent agenda and were approved as part of the consent vote. Staff will report pilot evaluation data mid‑year.
