Summary
The board received routine reports of gifts and grants under board policy, was told of three purchase orders for replacement buses, approved consent items and certified/classified personnel reports, and approved a motion to enter closed session for attorney-client and personnel matters.
At its Feb. 16 meeting the Randolph County Board of Education received routine information items and approved personnel reports. Superintendent Dr. Ganey reported three gifts under board policy (all $5,000 or less): $1,000 anonymously to Hobel Elementary, $250 from a local Civitan club to Randall Dunn Elementary, and about $400 in supplies to Trinity Middle School. The district also heard two grants presented as information: a DonorsChoose grant of $1,032.49 for 89 braille books for the Franklinville Elementary media center, and a $5,000 hygiene-products grant from the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction for countywide distribution.
The board also received a report on purchase orders for replacement yellow buses totaling three POs that together cover six replacement buses. Presenters noted the vehicles are state-owned and that the district accounts for the purchases in its books because the state finances the buses.
Consent agenda items were approved by voice vote. Later in the meeting the board approved certified and classified personnel reports. At the conclusion of the public business a motion was made to enter closed session under North Carolina law for attorney-client privilege and personnel matters; the board moved forward with the closed-session motion and completed the personnel approvals prior to adjournment. Several board members and speakers expressed appreciation to the retiring staff member recognized earlier in the meeting.
