Delta County commissioners voted Sept. 17 to approve several airport grant contracts and to authorize consultant Mead & Hunt to oversee engineering and design for apron and runway improvements, perimeter fencing design and lighting upgrades at the county airport.
An airport representative said the FAA had already issued a federal grant agreement and that the MDOT contracts document where federal, state and local funding sources will be applied. The board referenced contract number 2024‑0798 and a MDOT Bipartisan Infrastructure contract (2024‑0800/2024‑0888 as read aloud) during motions. The consultant’s scope includes design of perimeter fencing, runway edge lighting and precision approach indicators; the presenter said Mead & Hunt’s fee to the airport over the project duration is about $233,000 but noted those costs are reimbursable by federal grants.
Commissioners asked whether perimeter fencing work in the contract covered only design or also installation; staff confirmed the contract covers design work and that construction would be bid later. Several commissioners attending a prior airport meeting praised Mead & Hunt for thorough answers during their presentation. The board approved the contracts and the consultant authorization by voice vote.
The airport manager (Rand Sadler) and staff were noted as coordinating grant reimbursement timing and PFAS testing; PFAS testing at the airport was reported complete. Commissioners were told that reimbursements for large projects may arrive in 2026 depending on grant closeout timing.
