Design Review Board hears updates on Style Center repairs, zoning-code amendments and short-term rental mapping

During old-business and staff updates at the Nov. 18 meeting, city staff told the design review board that a judge advised the owner is responsible for repairs at the Style Center, not the party holding a land contract. Staff said the owner is believed to be JJV 2 Development LLC (418 Broadway) and recommended consulting an attorney on access or enforcement options.
Staff also briefed the board on upcoming zoning-code amendments that could extend some B3 downtown-business district requirements to the mixed-use Broadway historic district. The city is re-bidding revisions to its design-review guidelines and plans to engage a consultant to help the board and planning commission review and amend those guidelines in the new year.
In a separate planning update, staff reported the city contracted Granicus to identify short-term rentals downtown. "We had 11 submit 12 submissions" for the guidelines bid and "we have 90 plus different types of short term rentals," staff said, explaining the mapping will help the city understand how short-term rentals are being used in downtown neighborhoods.
Staff suggested inviting the chief to the next meeting for a follow-up on the Style Center. The board and staff characterized the updates as steps toward clearer enforcement and updated design guidance but did not take further action on the Style Center beyond noting the court advisory and planning next steps.
