Fair Housing Board will move regular meetings to a quarterly schedule; emergency sessions to handle complaints

The Fair Housing Board voted to change its regular meeting cadence from monthly to quarterly, with an amendment specifying that the board will reconvene between scheduled quarterly meetings if a housing complaint or other urgent matter arises.

A board member moved to shift the regular meeting schedule to quarterly; another member seconded. During discussion members said the ordinance does not require monthly meetings and that the board has flexibility to meet when there is business to conduct. A proposed amendment adding an exception for housing complaints was moved, seconded and adopted; the amended main motion then passed by voice vote.

Board members discussed timing and noted the first quarterly meeting under the new schedule would take place in January. The board instructed staff to notify members about the scheduling change and to include the revised cadence on future agendas. A board representative also confirmed the Fair Housing Center for Rights and Research is preparing educational materials about source-of-income protections and will return to the board for training when those materials are complete.

Next steps: staff will circulate a notice to all board members about the change in meeting frequency and will post any required updates to the board’s agenda distribution as appropriate.
