Summary
An EMS representative requested funding to buy upgraded cardiac monitors for county ambulances that work in adult, pediatric and infant modes and add Wi‑Fi/cell-phone streaming so hospital staff can view rhythms in real time; council approved advertising for purchase of three (with option for a fourth) monitors totaling roughly $219,285.77.
Dave Simpson, speaking for the county’s EMS operations, asked the council for additional appropriations to buy upgraded cardiac monitors for ambulances.
Simpson said the newer monitors operate in automatic mode for adult, pediatric and infant patients and include enhanced Wi‑Fi that permits a clinician to stream 12-lead rhythms to hospital staff via a cell-phone app in near real time. "With these new monitors... there's actually an app that will connect to the cell phone in the ER, which is manned 24/7, and I can actually live stream that rhythm immediately," Simpson said, describing potential benefits for pre-hospital communication and treatment decisions.
He presented budget numbers and said the county had unspent funds available but would also apply for grants to cover remaining costs. The council discussed funding-source options and approved a motion to advertise for the requested appropriation.
