Greene County Cemetery Commission reports database of 210 cemeteries, modest year-end balance

Jamie Thompson, speaking for the Greene County Cemetery Commission, updated the council on the commission’s work and finances.
"We started out the year with a balance of $2,026.60 and ended the year with $2,441.22," Thompson said, adding that the commission spent $735.38 on supplies and has organized a county cemetery database that lists 210 cemeteries and includes site visits to 105 of them. Thompson also said the commission has offered a workshop on stone cleaning and plans another public workshop to show correct stone-cleaning methods.
Thompson told the council the commission will post meeting notices on the county website now that she has access; meetings are scheduled for the first Monday of each month at 1 p.m. in the fairgrounds boardroom. Residents may donate to the commission through the auditor with 'Greene County Cemetery Commission' in the memo line.
A council member thanked the commission for its work and noted the difficulty of restoring privately owned cemetery sites; Thompson said the commission focuses on privately run sites where brush, tree growth and unreset stones are most common.
The council did not take a separate vote on the report beyond the routine acknowledgement and brief Q&A.
