Greene County Soil and Water representatives told the county council they have been awarded a $116,000 Clean Water Indiana grant to support on-farm conservation practices.
"We were approved for a $116,000, to implement conservation practices in the county," Laura Cassandra Arthur said, listing heavy-use pads, permanent water systems, spring development, rotational grazing and fencing as planned projects. Arthur also said the grant allowed the office to purchase a post driver that will be available for rent to landowners seeking to implement fencing and other practices.
The Soil and Water representative presented two maps created during a recent plat-book update and said one map is on display in the county Soil and Water office. Council members asked about public access; Arthur said plat books are available for purchase for $32 and that the maps are also accessible through the county’s GIS page.
The funding and equipment are intended to support conservation measures countywide; council members did not register opposition during the presentation. The office said it has begun the application process for program implementation and will return with more details as projects proceed.
