High-school students presented FBLA and CTE accomplishments, including state qualifiers and chapter awards; the board recognized top students and the rifle team’s regional and national placements.
Students representing the district’s FBLA chapter and other student groups addressed the Fremont Re-1 board on Feb. 26 to highlight Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month and recent competitive accomplishments.
Dustin Marks, the FBLA chapter president, and other student officers described how CTE classes and PACE internships connect classroom learning with career skills, citing certifications and competition experience that prepare students for employment and higher education. "CTE...provides opportunities that simulate what it’s actually like to be in the career that they’re interested in," Marks said. Student officers noted the chapter’s state qualifiers and that their chapter was named first-place in its division at the state level.
The board also recognized a top Falcon student, Callan Sack, nominated by a math teacher for leadership and work ethic, and introduced members of the Canyon City High School Tiger Rifle Team, which the board said placed third in the West and seventh nationally in a recent Civilian Marksmanship Program event. Coaches and student team members were present and the board thanked volunteers and parents who supported travel and participation.
The acknowledgments were followed by the board’s business agenda and several unanimous votes on policy items and program approvals. The board asked student teams to report back on competition outcomes after travel to regional and national events.
