A Lorain Buildings & Lands subcommittee advanced an ordinance to send the preliminary development plan for the Silver Hills project to the full Lorain City Council for final approval.
The planning commission recommended approval of the preliminary development plan for Silver Hills, located at 5430 West Erie Avenue, at its Sept. 3, 2025 meeting, and a staff presenter told the subcommittee that required public notice of the hearing was published in a local newspaper. Committee members reviewed maps and variances included in the meeting packet.
Committee discussion was largely favorable. An unnamed councilmember said the project ‘‘looks nice’’ and praised its use of the Lakeview area while acknowledging constituent concerns that apartment rents might be high. Staff responded to a parking question and said the plans address parking needs.
By voice vote — with the motion seconded and ‘‘ayes’’ recorded — the subcommittee approved sending the ordinance back to the full council for consideration. The committee did not record individual roll-call vote tallies in the transcript.
The ordinance now goes to the full Lorain City Council for a final vote and any further review required by council members.
