The department is repairing an engine damaged on the interstate; the repair estimate is "just slightly over a 100,000" and the chief said the insurance company is covering the repair. Separately, the ladder truck was declared not certifiable and was sold for scrap; the department said it has mutual-aid access to ladder trucks on the east and south sides to protect insurance ratings while replacement planning continues.
Because of highway incidents involving emergency vehicles, the chief said the department has had constructive conversations with the Department of Transportation about grant opportunities for attenuator trucks and other highway-safety measures.
The chief announced a special board meeting on Thursday the 6th at 5:00 p.m. for a presentation and possible recommendations from the building committee on the fire station project.
