Manitowoc County Public Safety Committee: Axon body-camera installations to begin in March

The Public Safety Committee told the County Board that installation of Axon body-worn cameras and related equipment will begin in March after a contract signed last November.
Supervisor Granville reported that Sheriff Hartwig briefed the committee: "The contract with Axon was signed in November and most of the equipment has already been delivered. They expect the rest of the equipment to arrive by first and begin installation first in the cars and the interview rooms, starting about March 10." Committee members said the plan is to have everything fully implemented by April; Sheriff Hartwig will provide a more detailed update at a future Public Safety meeting in April or May.
The committee also welcomed Jewel Scharenbrock as the new Register in Probate and Circuit Court Commissioner; Granville noted Scharenbrock started in January and joined the county after eight years in the corporate counsel office and about six years as a public defender. The committee discussed the bail-setting process and noted bail hearings are held daily and live-streamed (links on the CCAP website).
What’s next: the Public Safety Committee will receive a fuller implementation report from the sheriff in a coming month; no board-level vote on the equipment rollout was recorded at this meeting.
