Kent told commissioners the lot was donated to the city and, apart from demolition costs already incurred, the location has utilities in place, making it suitable for the program. Staff said the college's timeline aims to start foundation work after Jan. 1 and complete construction in spring (one home per school year), but that grant timelines could shift the schedule. Staff sent the draft MOU to Ben Shears with Fort Hays Tech Northwest and will return a finalized agreement for formal approval once the college confirms details. Commissioners discussed whether to hold the lot for one or two years and generally agreed two years was acceptable.
No formal approval was requested at this meeting; the MOU was presented for direction and staff will bring a finalized MOU to the next meeting for formal action.
