Goodland unveils small-business facade grant and introduces new economic development director

Lisa told commissioners the Building Brilliance application opened Sept. 1 and will close Sept. 30; a review committee representing city, county, foundation and board members will evaluate applications in October and award grants on Nov. 1. She described grants of up to $5,000 per business with a required 25% local match. ‘‘We got a grant with Network Kansas,’’ Lisa said, ‘‘They gave $10,000 for a grant, and we did a $20,000 match, so a total of 30,000 for this year.’’ Staff said applicants may find details on the city website or by calling the city office.
Bert Moser, introduced at the meeting, described prior work in Hoxie and Osage County and said he plans to visit every business in Sherman County and Goodland to assess needs and relay opportunities to the commission. ‘‘When I hear from them, you'll hear from me,’’ Moser said.
Staff stated the program is intended to help façade and signage improvements and that the city will publish application materials online; commissioners signaled support and asked staff to follow through on outreach and timeline adherence. The commission asked staff to return with any necessary implementation details if award administration or matching requirements require further clarification.
