City approves MOU to transfer Goodland FRA assets to Sherman County No. 1

The commission unanimously approved a memorandum of understanding to consolidate Goodland’s firefighter relief association (FRA) assets and insurance into Sherman County No. 1’s FRA, a legal and administrative step staff said is needed to transfer equipment, insurance and other assets.
City counsel and county counsel worked on the MOU to document the intent and provide the insurance commission with required paperwork. Staff explained the FRA is a separate legal entity under Kansas law and the MOU is the final procedural step to show intent to transfer assets; once the insurance commission accepts the paperwork and assets are moved, the city’s separate FRA can be dissolved.
Commissioner Redland moved the MOU approval, Commissioner Redland seconded the motion, and the commission approved it on a roll call vote.
