President highlights accreditation progress, AI articulation and national awards

Dr. Shelley used the President’s Report to brief the board on recent academic and partnership developments.
She said COTA reviewers visited the Wisconsin Rapids dental hygiene lab and were impressed with the program’s compliance; the college expects an official letter and initial accreditation that would allow it to accept its first dental hygiene cohort. "They walked away basically telling us that we were in complete compliance," Dr. Shelley said.
She also described an articulation agreement with Waukesha County Technical College to share an AI specialist associate degree, allowing Mid State to expand AI coursework and serve local incumbent workers. Dr. Shelley credited faculty and staff for the work and noted high student interest in dental hygiene ("something like over a 160 or a 170 people") despite limited program seats.
Dr. Shelley highlighted employee and foundation activity supporting the college and said Mid State received notice from Aspen recognizing student-success excellence and was selected as an AACC finalist for outstanding college–corporate partnership (one of six national finalists and the only college from Wisconsin in that category).
Board members thanked Dr. Shelley and other staff for the recognitions and partnerships. The president said a semifinalist interview for the Aspen recognition had already been completed and that the AACC award ceremony would be April 13.
