RiverCog voted to add East Haddam to the regional household hazardous-waste program. Janice reported that the program will begin its season with a paper‑shredding event on April 5 in East Hampton and a hazardous-waste day on April 19 in Clinton. She said a new Spanish-language flyer will be distributed and that MXI will be the new hauler under contract.
Members discussed how to add East Haddam without renegotiating the entire interlocal agreement. Staff said an interlocal provision allows adding a town by a two‑thirds vote; the board agreed to accept the signed contract addendum and voted by voice to add East Haddam. Janice confirmed East Haddam will pay its share and will receive an invoice at the beginning of the next fiscal year; staff will circulate an updated flyer with the new town included.
The motion carried by voice vote with members saying the addition will reduce costs for all participating towns by increasing scale.
