River valley transit to add Saturday service, convert flex routes to fixed routes and deploy electric buses

Several route alignments will be tweaked to improve punctuality, including a shortening of one route that has been running late and removal of the low‑use Beechwood Loop in Killingworth to regain five minutes of reliability.
The transit representative said electric buses are anticipated to enter service soon and that the agency is transitioning from a flag‑to‑stop system to a more traditional bus stop network, requiring hundreds of sign installations; contract proposals for sign installation are under review. Microtransit (extra-mile/Middletown zone) showed strong productivity, with one zone reporting productivity described as “Midtown Manhattan numbers” on a peak day and a local 16% ridership increase cited for some services.
Board members congratulated the transit staff on ridership gains and asked about data and outreach; the transit representative said ridership improvements have been visible across weekday and weekend services and that a bus stop roll‑out plan will follow with more details to participating towns.
