Transit district moves forward on bus shelters and stop permitting; Clinton trolley ridership surges

Bridal Garrity, regional transit planner, said four bus‑shelter sites in Middletown now have concrete pads installed and the district is coordinating manufacturer delivery and maintenance agreements so shelters can be installed soon. Garrity asked towns to provide input on stop locations for state and municipal roads and said permitting for District 1 (Middletown, Middlefield) has been obtained.
"Once they're delivered, they'll install them shortly and we'll let everybody know when those are coming," Garrity said, adding that the district is working through some maintenance‑agreement issues with vendors.
Joe Commerford and Garrity also described continuing work to finalize routes and stop locations in District 2 and said contractors will reach out to towns for input. They highlighted the Clinton trolley pilot as a successful demonstration: Garrity said summer promotion tripled ridership compared with the previous year and that the program may look for additional funding to sustain momentum.
Transit staff said they will follow up with RiverCOG and municipal staff about exact stop locations, permitting status and timeline for shelter installation.
