Milton School District unveils 2025–26 calendar: Sept. 2 start, 175.5 instructional days, June 5 half‑day finish

District staff presented the finalized 2025–26 calendar to the board on Dec. 9 and highlighted several scheduling decisions that affect families and staff.

Key calendar items: the district will keep 175.5 instructional days (same as the current year) with the earliest allowed start date of Tuesday, Sept. 2. The final student day is scheduled as a half day on June 5, which yields the 175.5 instructional‑day total; graduation will be the preceding Sunday, May 31. New teachers will have one and a half days of training on Aug. 18 and the morning of Aug. 19, with all teachers returning Aug. 19 and a districtwide welcome on Aug. 20. Summer school is planned to begin Monday, June 8.

A notable scheduling change: students will be in session on the Monday and Tuesday of the Thanksgiving week, a change from some recent years; the district said this shift balances instructional needs and family planning during the holidays. The first two snow days are planned as noninstructional days; after that the district retains discretion about virtual days or make‑up days depending on timing and severity of winter weather.

A board member pointed out an apparent omission of a Nov. 21 date on the draft; staff confirmed the date is in the calendar and said they would correct the posted copy before publication. The presentation organizers said committee representatives (including chair Julie Musgrove and teacher reps) contributed to calendar development and that further tweaks focused on professional development timing to support semester transitions.

Next steps: staff will correct and publish the calendar online and proceed with planned communications to families and staff.
