Contractors told trustees bond projects are about 92% complete and that Area G substantial completion slipped to May because of asbestos and concealed conditions. Trustees approved additional asbestos abatement ($125,000 cap), districtwide interactive panels ($455,917), and intercom upgrades (≤$160,000) from bond funds.
Contractors reported Feb. 19 that work on Rockport Fulton ISD’s bond projects is roughly 92% complete, with about $36 million billed against a $39.24 million authorization. Project managers said a small section (Area G) will push the overall substantial completion date from March into May after crews uncovered concealed conditions that require district‑led asbestos abatement.
Project representatives described selective demolition, new secure entry construction, additional parking and a reworked bus loop. They said finishes in the athletic wing, fine‑arts spaces and classroom areas are nearly finished, with finishing work, flooring and casework underway.
Because asbestos was found in a roof area not sampled earlier, the board approved additional abatement for the high school northwest wing not to exceed $125,000 from bond funds. Operations reported the abatement contractor mobilized immediately and air monitoring and hand abatement procedures would be used for safety.
Trustees also approved capital purchases to standardize instructional technology and safety systems: ViewSonic interactive video displays and installation across campuses totaling $455,917 (paid from bond interest funds) and intercom upgrades for Fulton Elementary and Live Oak not to exceed $160,000 from bond funds, enabling district‑wide cross‑communication and improved emergency communications.
Administration said punch lists are being tracked in a live document and district staff will continue compressing schedules where possible. The board voted unanimously on the technology and abatement items.
