Housing summit to highlight regional affordable-housing work; $2.2M expected for five towns

Jocelyn invited members to the Litchfield County Housing Affordability Summit on Sept. 30 and previewed a funding announcement expected at the event. She said the commissioner of the Department of Housing is expected to attend and that the governor has been invited. "We are hoping that at the summit, the commissioner will formally announce $2,200,000 for us to help in 5 towns in our region," she said, naming Cornwall, Salisbury, Washington, Norfolk and Torrington as proposed beneficiaries.
Jocelyn also described ongoing local programs: seed funding and acquisition support for local housing nonprofits, a forthcoming affordable housing and conservation collaboration strategy in several towns, and data and progress-report templates the COG is making available to member municipalities. She noted 323 units of affordable housing are in development across the region and invited board members to attend the Sept. 30 summit or follow up for details.
Board members asked about per-unit costs and Jocelyn said construction cost estimates vary; she and Dan clarified the anticipated funding would help create homeownership units with land retained by local housing trusts to ensure long-term affordability.
