Council directs $800,000 in redevelopment funds to street-safety upgrades around Lakey Bridal School

The Los Angeles City Council voted to direct more than $800,000 in redevelopment bond balances set aside for community improvements in Council District 1 toward a package of street-safety upgrades around Lakey Bridal School.
Councilmember Hernandez (Speaker 40) introduced the motion, which lists a suite of upgrades intended to modernize transit corridors near the school: new bike routes, upgraded pedestrian lighting, high-visibility crosswalks, pedestrian-activated flashing beacons, ADA-accessible curb ramps, sidewalk extensions and traffic calming measures. Hernandez said the improvements would benefit working-class families in Westlake and Pico Union by increasing safety and visibility around the campus.
The Economic Development and Jobs Committee and the Department of Transportation were named to lead implementation. The council opened and closed the roll for the motion and recorded 13 ayes.
The vote authorizes the use of redevelopment bond balances identified for community improvements in Council District 1; council staff will coordinate implementation through the city departments identified in the motion.
