Local Eagle Scout proposes skate-park signs as city weighs long-term funding

Hunter Evans, an Eagle Scout candidate, asked the Beaver City Council Feb. 24 for approval and guidance on two skateboard-park signs — a temporary “coming soon” board and a permanent metal skate-park sign. “It’s gonna cost, like, $2,015 for both signs,” Evans told the council.
Mayor Robinson and several council members praised the idea and encouraged Evans to coordinate with city staff and his troop. The mayor said the city is pursuing funding for a potential skate park but that construction is still conceptual, with a rough city estimate of about $500,000 to build the full park. “We think that the skate park might cost us about $500,000 to build,” the mayor said, and advised storing any permanent sign until a construction timeline is clearer.
Council members suggested the sign could still be approved as an Eagle Scout contribution even if the larger skate-park project takes one to two years to fund. Staff said the city might be able to store a permanent sign until construction begins, and that funded city projects could provide other near-term Eagle Scout opportunities. Evans said the temporary sign could be installed sooner to signal community support for the project.
The council did not record a formal vote specifically to fund the signs at this meeting. Members directed the city manager and staff to continue coordinating with Evans and his family, and to bring timeline updates about overall skate-park funding to the council when available.
