District IT reports Chromebook rollout, copier migration and Schoology/SchoolTool sync plans

Network administrator PJ Mahoney told the board the district ordered Chromebooks for fifth and ninth grades: fifth‑grade devices are at elementary buildings and labeled, and ninth‑grade devices arrived Monday and will be prepped for students.

Mahoney said staff Chromebooks were ordered and FRP laptops funded by the FRP grant are expected in mid‑September. The district completed a copier deployment (new Kyocera copiers) and rolled out a badge‑release system to reduce paper waste and secure printing. He also reported the district moved web filtering from Securly back to a vendor referred to in the presentation as Kilgaardian to address classroom access and filtering stability.

On learning platforms, Superintendent O’Shea and instructional‑technology staff described the transition between Schoology (teacher‑facing LMS and grade book) and SchoolTool (the district’s student information/grade‑of‑record system). Parents will be able to access SchoolTool for attendance and discipline once accounts are provisioned; the district plans to send parent setup instructions before school starts (target Sept. 4). O’Shea said teachers can push grades from Schoology into SchoolTool with the grade‑pass‑back function to avoid double entry.

Board members asked whether FRP laptops were replacements or for a new FRP cohort; staff confirmed they’re for the incoming cohort and that students had interim Chromebooks for summer sessions. The rollout of Titan for food service (migrating from Meals Plus) was also described as a fall transition.
