The Roseville City Council voted unanimously to approve an updated streetlight policy following a short staff presentation and council questions. Staff explained that revised spacing standards still result in more concentrated lighting in commercial center areas than in residential zones — roughly 200–250 feet spacing in commercial areas compared with about 600 feet in residential areas — and that some center‑point areas may end up with roughly 4–6 times more lighting than a typical residential block.
Council members asked how crosswalks and intersections would be added to the City's inventory for upgrades. Staff said marked crosswalks would be prioritized first and that some locations may only need an overhead attachment while others require a new pole or power extension; the City plans to work with its contractor/consultant (referred to in the packet as "Excel") to map and prioritize work.
The council moved, seconded and voted 4–0 to approve the policy as presented.
What’s next: staff will work with the contractor to produce a prioritized list for crosswalks and intersections and proceed with installations according to available funding and engineering constraints.
