Roseville approves $20,000 fireworks contract for Rose Fest; drone alternative cited as costlier

The Roseville City Council unanimously approved an agreement with J and M Display to provide a fireworks show for the city—s Party in the Park (Rose Fest) on June 27, 2026, in the amount of $20,000.
Parks and Recreation Director Matt Johnson said staff periodically evaluates alternatives such as drone shows but that typical drone productions have been priced at about three times the cost of traditional fireworks. "It was roughly three times the cost —2—— in the neighborhood of about $60,000 to do a drone show," Johnson said, adding that nearby communities are experimenting with drones but results have varied.
Council Member Straub moved approval of the J and M Display contract; Council Member Graf seconded. Public comment and council discussion noted sensitivity to noise for some residents and an interest in studying alternatives in future years, but the council approved the fireworks contract 4—to—0.
Next steps: Parks staff will finalize the contract and manage event logistics for the June 27 display.
